RESULTS OF 2001 CONSOLIDATED GENERAL & SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Council declare the results of the 2001 Consolidated General & Special
Municipal Elections; after which, newly elected officeholders will be sworn into
office.
BACKGROUND:
In addition to the Municipal Election to elect two members of the City Council, each
for a full four-year term, ending in 2005, the City Council called a special election
to be consolidated with the Municipal Election for the purpose of placing on the
ballot three measures; a Charter Amendment concerning the commencement of
term of Office for Members of the City Council; for advisory vote only, a measure
relating to issuing debt due to the 2001 Convention Center Bond refinancing; and a
measure relating to increasing transient occupancy tax.
The results of the election have been certified by the Registrar of Voters, and are
attached, showing that Christopher Mills and Ronald Oden were elected to the City
Council; and that following measures were supported by the voters.
ADVISORY MEASURE
(D) Shall the City use the monies made available because of the 2001 Convention
Center refinancing to issue debt to finance downtown parking, be adopted?
MEASURE
(E) Shall the Transient Occupancy Tax Ordinance be amended to add a section
authorizing the City Council to increase the tax on group meeting hotels from
10.8 to a maximum of 12.5 percent and on all other hotels from 10 to a maximum
of 11.5 percent with the tax imposed by this section to be paid into the general
fund of the City to be used for the usual and current expenses of the City, be
adopted?
CHARTER AMENDMENT
(F) Shall the City of Palm Springs Charter be amended to change the term of each
Member of the City Council to commence no later than five days from the
Certification of the election results by the City Clerk, be adopted?

RESOLUTION NO.
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS,
CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACTS OF TIIE GENERAL/SPECIAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY ON TIIE 6TH DAY OF
NOVEMBER 2001, DECLARING THE RESULT THEREOF AND SUCH
OTHER MATTERS AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW.
WHEREAS a municipal election was held and conducted in the City of Palm Springs,
Califonua, on November 6, 2001, as required by law; and
WHEREAS notice of said election was duly and regularly given in time, form and manner
as provided by law; that voting precincts were properly established; that election officers
were appointed and that in all respects said election was held and conducted and the votes
cast thereat, received and canvassed and the returns made and declared in time, form and
manner as required by the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California for the
holding of elections in cities; and
WHEREAS on August 1, 2001 the City Council called a Special Municipal election to be
consolidated with the November 6, 2001 City wide election, for the purpose of placing three
measures on the ballot; and
WIIEREAS pursuant to Resolution 20064 adopted June 6, 2001, the City Clerk of said City
has caused the canvass of the returns of said election and has certified the results to this City
Council, said results are received, attached and made a part hereof as Exhibit A,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs,
as follows:
Section 1. That there were 25 voting precincts established for the purpose of holding
said election consisting of consolidations of the regular elections precincts in
said City as established for the holding of state and county elections.
Section 2. That said regular general mumicipal election was held for the purpose of
electing the following officers of said City as required by laws relating to
cities in the State of California, to-wit:
Section J. That said consolidated special election was held for the purpose of
submitting the following measures to the electors of said City; to-wit:

MEASURE F Charter Amendment

Section 4. That the names of persons voted for at said election for Member of the City
Council of said City are, as follows:
William Feingold
James (Jim) Franklin
Ron Oden
Christopher(Chris) Mills
Wayne Patterson
Sharon I. Lock
Arthur Lyons
Deyna L. Hodges
Section 5. That the number of votes given at each precinct and the number of votes
given in the City to each of such persons above named for the respective
offices for which said person was a candidate, are as listed in Exhibit A
attached.
Section 6. That the City Coumcil does hereby declare and determine that:
Christopher Mills and Ronald Oden were elected to a full four-year term as a
Member of the City Council.
Section 7. That as a result of said election, a majority of the qualified voters voting on
Measure D relating to the Convention Center bond refinancing did vote in
favor thereof, (an advisory vote only).
Section 8. That as a result of said election, a majorityof the qualified voters voting on
Measure E relating to an increase of Transient Occupant' Tax did vote in
favor thereof,
Section 9. That as a result of said election, a majority of the qualified voters voting on
Measure F relating to cornmencenint of term of Office for Members of the
City Council did vote in favor thereof, (a Charter Amendment);

Section 10. That the City Clerk shall enter on the records of the City Council of said
City, a statement of result of said election, showing:
(1) The measures voted upon and names of the persons voted for;
(2) For what office each person was voted for;
(3) The number of votes given at each precinct for and against each
measure, and number of votes given to each person;
(4) The number of votes given in the City for and against each measure,
and the number of votes received by each person.
Section 11. That the City Clerk shall immediately make and deliver to each of such
persons so elected a Certificate of Election signed by the City Clerk and duly
authenticated; that the City Clerk shall also administer to each person
elected, the oath of Office prescribed in the State Constitution of the State of
California and shall have them subscribe thereto and file the same in the
Office of the City Clerk. Whereupon, each and all of said persons so elected
shall be included into the respective office to which they have been elected.
