GROUND TRANSPORTATION CENTER COMMUNICATION CABLE INSTALLATION
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council accept the attached proposal from NEC®
Business Network Solutions, Inc. as sole source provider for the installation of
communication cable for the Ground Transportation Center, in an amount not-to-
exceed $13,995.29.
SUMMARY:
This expansion of the Airport's Premise Distribution System (PDS) will provide a
communication/data link between the main terminal and the Ground Transportation
Center(GTC). The communication link can be utilized for flight information, security
or telephone equipment to be installed at the GTC.
BACKGROUND:
During Phase IIA of the terminal expansion, NEC®Business Network Solutions was
selected via the California Multiple Award Schedule(CMAS)to provide Air Blown Fiber
(ABF) optic and copper cabling, as well as telephone equipment for the Airport. The
work outlined in the attached proposal is an expansion of the existing system. NEC®
is the only source for the Air Blown Fiber (ABF) technology utilized in this system.
The attached Minute Order would approve this work in an amount not-to-exceed
$13,995.29. Funds are available in account 415-60-6400-56048, Communication
Conduit, GTC.
The Airport Commission recommended City Council approval of this item at its
meeting of December 5, 2001.

Assumptions and Caveats:
Pricing is based upon the scope of work,as outlined above. Additional pricing will apply if the scope of work
changes.
Pricing assumes that all cross connections and cross connect records will be installed and provided by others.
NEC BNS Inc. will not perform work in any area, which is known to contain friable asbestos.
Pricing assumes that all work will be performed during normal business hours.
StA 3
Pricing assumes that all work will be performed during normal business hours.
Pricing assumes that the customer, when required will provide access. Additional pricing will apply if
reasonable access is not provided at all times. Delays or stoppages, caused by the customer or other trades,
may result in additional pricing.
Pricing does not include the cost of city or county permits,as the cost of these permits is impossible to
determine,without filing an application.
NEC BN5 Inc. cannot guarantee the usability of any existing conduits or pathways. Pricing assumes that
existing conduits from the"Old Time Clock Room" connect through the same pull boxes that feed the Taxi
Driver Building, and that all conduits are usable and free from obstructions.
NEC BN5 Inc.assumes that all above work will be completed in an uninterrupted work flow.
