Mayor Will Kleindienst
Mayor, City of Palm Springs
Palm Springs City Hall
3200 E. Tahquitz Way
Palm Springs, CA
Dear Mr. Mayor,
We have a vacancy on our City Council that needs to be filled. The business of the City
of Palm Springs can best be served with a full Council of five members. I would like for you
to consider our friend, Ms. Denise Goolsby, to fill this position. Denise has served as
president of the Hotel and Hospitality Association, as president of the Desert Gay Tourism
Guild, is current Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, and sits on Linda Fort's
Tourism Advisory Council. Denise and her partner Joanne are raising their son in Palm
Springs. She is aware of the value of tourism and the needs of Palm Springs families.
As a successful business owner for several years, Denise has experience in business
management that could benefit the City of Palm Springs. In her volunteer leadership
positions she has worked to promote unity and to accomplish goals for several
organizations. She is well liked by everyone she works with, and would be an asset to the
City Council. The Desert Sun described her editorially as a "rising star."
Please consider Denise in your plans to fill the City Council vacancy.
Thank you for your time, and please contact me if you would like further recommendation
of Denise.
Sincerely,
/J1 n Williams

TO: Palm Springs City Council(Mr. Oden, Ms. Reller-Spurgin, Mr. Mill$, Mr. Kleindienst)
re: current vacancy
Mr. Oden -
Thank you. I absolutely agree with your position and I commend you for making a case for doing the ONLY fair
thing available. As you pointed out, f someone isn't willing to run for office and put their ideas in the public arena
for debate and consideration, they do NOT DESERVE to sit on City Council.
The LAST thing any resident of Palm Springs should want is to see is some political crony appointed to the
council for no reason other than to build the political base of the His Honor the mayor.
Ms. Reller-Spurgin -
ree. As you
we HAVE
another. And the mayor and h s newly-elected Ist had an B the mouthpiece know i absolutelyion and it is tintless (and unnecessary) to have
urge both of you NOT to give in to this blatant attempt to steal the vacant seat. If the mayor and Mr. Mills
wants to force it to a special election, so be it. Maybe by then we can organize recall petitions at the same time.
I am NOT someone who ALWAYS supported Ms. Hodges-nor do I ALWAYS agree with any elected person
(For instance, Ms. Roller-Spurgin, I think that a sitting Council Person should be able to separate his/her own
personal issues over any business with a beer/wine/liquor license from their duty to"do what is right for the
City. Alcohol isn't going away just because you don't like it, and "just saying no" isn't what is always in the
best interest of the City or its people). However, 1 agree with both of you very clearly -the voters have
just spoken and no amount of hand-waving by Mills and Klelndienst will change that!
Mr. Mills-
Rarely have I seem the level ola rrogance displayed by you on your very first night of sitting on City Counc!I.For you,a newly elected member of the council to say that"I don t much believe in the next highest vote getter"
being seated, is the absolute height of arrogance. Apparently you believe, instead, in your ability to use (or abuse)your newly-found power'to appoint some friend of yours - regardless of what the voters have said.
Let's be perfectly clear- I don't want some friend of yours appointed to the council with absolutely no public
scrutiny. And your rambling excuse that just because someone rant or won't run for office shouldn't prevent
them from being appointed is blatant hypocrisy. As Mr. Oden said, if he/she is not willing to run for office they
don't deserve to be in office.
And if you don't see the distinction, neither do you!
Mr. Kleindienst-
It's been no secret for quite a while that you seem much more interested in your political future than in doing what
is good for Palm Springs. I think the time has come where you are clearly NOT good for Palm Spring any more.
You seem to have your own little agenda and apparently are willing to do anything to get somebody on the
council that will agree with you- regardless of any wishes the voters have expressed. It would be different if
we had not just had an election, but unfortunately for you,we did! So,for once in your life,do the right thing and
appoint the person who came in next in votes and stop trying to be some sleazy little politician who looks out for
your own interests above those of the Cityl

Dearest Jeanne:
It is so refreshing to hear your powerful words which so succinctly
sets the record straight. Thanks for having the courage to not
back down to the Mills/Kleindienst team which wished to infuse
their twisted sense of family values and morality on us.
I have always liked you and respected you because you are just
a real person, a real mother and a real champion of the dreams
of so many of us who call Palm Springs home.
Thank you once again Jeanne!! !! !! ! And don't let them nasty
boys twist your arm and make you give in for anything less then
you believe.
There are alot more of us, then them.
Best wishes to you and your family

I just want to let you know that I support you in your attempt to keep
Dayna
on as a council member. I did not vote for her in the last election but
because I feel that she had served long enough. That is the only reason
she
lost ! I support you and Ron in your attempt to get her back on the
council
after all she was the runner up. Don't let that wayward Mayor of ours
off
the hook on this one. I am so sick of his pompous attitude I could
scream.
PS You are doing a great job (and I voted for you) keep up the good
work.

The will of the people must be observed! Appoint Denya Hodges to replace Jim Jones, Denya only lost because 384 people
were so sure she would be re-electected that they didn't bother to vote, If the City Council can't resolve this issue, the citizens
should call for a"Special Election" Save us all this expense and Trouble, Appoint Denya no matter what Christ Mills thinks or
wants.
