Re: Rumble Strips on Crossley Road/Golf Club Drive
Dear Mayor Kleindienst:
My worst nightmare almost came true on February 2,2002,when there was an accident on Golf Club Drive.
A car ran off the road and would have ended up in my house had it not been stopped by a tree. With the
hundreds of rumble strips(bumps)on Golf Club Drive, dozens of signs, covering every turn, golf coursing,
bike crossing, and flashing lights, the driver evidentially ignored the warnings-
For more than a year I have been trying to get City officials to do something about the rumble strips and
speeding on Golf Club Drive, but to no avail. As I have indicated in previous correspondence, the speed limit
of 25 mph-35 mph is ajoke. Any size vehicle, truck, bus,or semi-tractor trailer flies through the residential
neighborhood at any speed they wish. The Palm Springs Police do nothing about the speeding on Golf Club
Drive.
On February 15,2002, 1 called the Police Department and talked to Stephanie regarding the accident. She
checked the record and informed me that there had never been an accident report filed. I find that hard to
believe since the police were on the scene as were other emergency personnel to administer and transport the
occupant of the car. The area surrounding the accident had broken glass, and discarded rubber gloves and
other items used to treat the injured party,so why wasn't a report filed. And,why did they leave, used gloves,
etc. on the ground?Isn't hazardous material supposed to be disposed of properly to avoid contamination to
others? Mr. Mayor, I do not understand why, if the police and other emergency personnel were on scene,
there wasn't an accident report filed, especially since this appeared to be a personal injury accident.
Again,Mr.Mayor,I am asking for your help and support, and would appreciate a respons' le response about
what action will be taken to remove the pointless rumble strips. How would you like to 1 i with the 24-hour
a day noise made by the rumble strips? Of course if the crossing was near your home, o any City ofrlcial,
and deemed to be dangerous, it would be closed and the rumble strips removed.
Your assistance in resolving this problem would be appreciated.

February 27, 2002 I ADS PROJECT
Mr. & Mrs. Brad Toles
.Savoury's
277 North Avenida Cabelleros
Palm Springs, CA 92262
Dear Mr. &Mrs. Toles:
In the past three years, Desert AIDS Project has paid nearly$300,000 to the Palm Springs
Convention Center operators and Savoury's to host three fundraisers for a combined 3,600 d csts.
Each of these events has, in fact, been the largest black-tie fundraiser in the Coachella Valley for that
year, the most recent hosting more than 1300 attendees. The most consistent complaint among our
guests has been the quality of the food provided. The most recent event, held on Saturday, February
9, 2002 has unquestionably yielded the most complaints about the quality of food.
At the cocktail reception hosted from 6:OOpm to 7:15pm numerous guests complained of a lack of
hors d' oeuvres and servers to pass them. We had several actually ask if we were, in fact, serving
hors d' oeuvres. D.A.P. staff in charge of the event found little evidence of the hors d' oeuvres being
passed.
The bars during the reception lacked such basic staples as Sprite or 7-Up, adequate glassware, ginger
ale, and lemon twists. We had complaints that the bar staff was both untrained and rude to our guests
(including two separate complaints from members of our Board of Directors). Guests complained
they were given incorrect drinks and that service was slow.
The host bars should not have been closed prior to 7:15pm. The conversion to cash bar started prior
to dinner despite the fact that the Banquet Event Order clearly states that cash bars were to be open
only during the dinner, show and after hours.
In fact, guests were waiting in line for drinks at one bar when the bar ran out of glasses. When the
glasses finally arrived, the bar was closed down immediately, despite the fact that guests had been
waiting prior to the close.
The biggest complaint was regarding the food served at dinner. In fact, the food that was served at
the event was not the food that was sampled at the tasting in January by Event Chair Kevin Bass,
Board President Andy Linsky, and D.A.P. staff member Elaine Goodman,
The Banquet Event Orders states that the salad was to be prepared with roasted walnuts, feta cheese
and tangerines. None of these were present in the salad at the event. At the tasting, the salad had
fresh Sting beans; at the dinner canned string beans were served, permeating the salad with the taste
of salt and preservatives. There is concern that the type of lettuce was not the same as at the tasting
or as stated in the Banquet Event Order. Even the salad dressing did not taste the same as during the
tasting. Gz7A/Kct f „(,0I)Imeat-"

At the tasting, Chicken Coq au Vin was comprised of chicken breast served in a rich red wine sauce.
At the event, the meal was chicken leg and thigh served in watery brown gravy. This was not the
same as at the tasting
The Chilean Sea Bass was described by many guests as completely inedible. Your staff will
doubtless have seen evidence of this in what was cleared from the plates.
The pasta in the vegetarian dinner was either undercooked or left standing too long to become
hardened. The sauce was not the same as at the tasting. At the tasting, we specifically requested that
portabello mushrooms not be served and that julienne vegetables be included with the pasta. The
pasta at the event contained mushrooms, not vegetables-
Reaction to the food among our guests was nearly universal distaste. Much of the food was, in fact,
left uneaten. Reports from guests indicated that many went to restaurants following the event
because of sheer hunger.
Of particular concern is that the lack of edible food to absorb alcohol led to increased intoxication
among guests. In fact, a fist fight occurred between two intoxicated guests after the event at the valet
parking.
In short, we believe that Desert AIDS Project is not being adequately or appropriately serviced by
Savoury's at our events. Many of us have seen first-hand the quality of Savoury's food at events such
as AIDS Assistance Program's "Evening TJnder the Stars". As we plan for what will no doubt be the
largest black-tie gala in the Coachella Valley in 2003,we lack confidence that Savoury's can meet
our needs and are looking elsewhere for a more appropriate caterer. If you have any questions, you
may contact Ken Katz, Director of Resource Development at Desert AIDS Project at (760) 323-2118
