Re: Planning Commission Vacancy
Dear Mr. Mayor and Members of the City Council:
1 know that your agenda for Wednesday March 20°i includes a discussion of the current vacancy on
the Planning Connrlission. I wanted to alert you of the strong feelings of all current colmmissioners
that the vacancy should be illed as soon as possible,
As you know, recent determinations concerning the necessity oFa disinterested quorum has caused
problems when conflicts of interest arise. With only 6 members the difficulty is exacerbated.
A further reason to proceed with a prompt appointment is the fact that the teens of 2 of our most
experienced conunissioners will expire this summer and those commissioners are not eligible for
reappointment- If the current vacancy is not filled until the normal summer changeover we will have
a total of 3 new inexperienced commissioners commencing their terms at the same time. The
transition would obviously be smoother if one commissioner could start work 3 or 4 months earlier.
I thank you for your consideration- If I as chainnan can in any way assist you in your candidate
evaluation do not hesitate to call on me.
Sincerely yours,
Philip S. Klatchko, Chairman
Palm Springs Planning Commission
