EMERGENCY STANDBY GENERATOR - CHANGE ORDER #2
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve a close-out Change Order #2
(subject to FAA approval), to agreement #4363 with Bergelectric Corporation for
additional equipment related to the emergency standby generator, in the amount of
$24,791.
SUMMARY:
City Project#2000-33 is the installation of a 1,250 kW emergency standby generator
forthe passenger terminal. This final change order represents miscellaneous changes
needed to provide an efficient emergency standby generator system and restore
items cut prior to bid to keep the project within the $850,000.
BACKGROUND:
In response to the energy shortages which occurred in 2001, the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA)supported the Airport's request for the installation of a 1,250 kW
generator, which is capable of providing emergency standby electricity to the entire
passenger terminal. The Project Administrator was given 5% change order authority
with this project. Just prior to final testing, there remained approximately$15,000 of
change order authority. Priorto bid, vibration, heat and noise insulation were removed
from the project to ensure the projectwould be within budget. Priorto the final testing,
these items were added back in under the Administrator's change order authority.
During the final test, a large breaker in the high voltage yard, which was not related
to this project but was needed for the power shutdown, was frozen in place and had
to be replaced. Also, the vibration from the engine required the relocation of some
control equipment. Thus the after-the-fact change order.A copy of the Change Order
is attached.
Sufficient funds are available in a federal grant, account no. 415-6600-56029, Ramp
26.
