RESULTS OF THE 2002 SPECIAL GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Council declare the results of the 2002 Special General Municipal Election;
after which, newly elected officeholder will be sworn into office.
BACKGROUND:
The City Council called a special election for the purpose of filling a vacant seat on
the City Council with term expiring November 2003.
The results of the election have been certified by the City Clerk and are attached,
showing that Deyna Hodges was elected to fill the City Council short-term vacancy
by the voters.

RESOLUTION NO.
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA,
RECITING THE FACTS OF THE SPECIAL GENERAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY ON THE 9T" DAY OF APRIL, 2002,
DECLARING THE RESULT THEREOF AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS
ARE PROVIDED BY LAW.
WHEREAS a special general municipal election was held and conducted in the City of Palm
Springs, California, on April 9, 2002, as ordered by the City Council, of the City of Palm
Springs and in conformance of law; and
WHEREAS notice of said election was duly and regularly given in time, form and manner as
provided by law; that voting precincts were properly established; that election officers were
appointed and that in all respects said election was held and conducted and the votes cast
thereat, received and canvassed and the returns made and declared in time, form and
manner as required by the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California for the
holding of elections in cities; and
WHEREAS on December 14, 2001 the City Council called a Special Municipal election to be
consolidated with the April established election date, for the purpose of placing the vacancy
for a short term member of the City Council before the voters; and
WHEREAS pursuant to Resolution 20234 adopted December 14, 2001 the City Clerk of said
City has caused the canvass of the returns of said election and has certified the results to this
City Council, said results are received, attached and made a part hereof as Exhibit A,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, as
follows:
Section 1. That there were 12 voting precincts established for the purpose of holding
said election consisting of consolidations of the regular elections precincts in
said City as established for the holding of state and county elections.
Section 2. That said special general municipal election was held for the purpose of
electing the following officer of said City as required by laws relating to cities in
the State of California, to-wit:
Section 3. That the names of person voted for at said election for Member of the City
Council of said City is, as follows:
RALPH R. VILLANI
MIC:HAEL MC CULLOCH
STEVE GRASHA
DEYNA L. HODGES
Section 4. That the number of votes given at each precinct and the number of votes
given in the City to each of such persons above named for the respective
office for which said person was a candidate, are as listed in Exhibit A
attached.

Section 5. The City Council does hereby declare and determine that:
Deyna L. Hodges was elected to fill a short-term vacancy, ending November
4, 2003 as a Member of the City Council.
Section 6. The City Clerk shall enter on the records of the City Council of said City, a
statement of result of said election, showing:
(1) The names of the persons voted for;
(2) For what office each person was voted for;
(3) The number of votes given at each precinct given to each person;
Section 7. That the City Clerk shall immediately make and deliver to each of such
persons so elected a Certificate of Election signed by the City Clerk and duly
authenticated; that the City Clerk shall also administer to each person elected,
the oath of Office prescribed in the State Constitution of the State of California
and shall have them subscribe thereto and file the same in the Office of the
City Clerk. Whereupon, each and all of said persons so elected shall be
included into the respective office to which they have been elected.
