I appreciate the gesture, and certainly favor good relations with the tribe. The rationale based on co-existing sovereign entities, however, has potentially infinite application, such as the school board, CVAG, Sunline, water district, etc., etc. How can we pick just one? If any portraits were to be added, we should first display members of our boards and commissions, our city staff, including police and fire, local heroes, award winners, students-of-the-month, etc. Only after all such opportunities were exhausted should you consider political officeholders of an outside jurisdiction. If it would be easier, just eliminate all portraits, including yours, and put up the work of local artists, which could include contributions of tribal members. Thanks for your consideration. Respectfully, Jerry Wayne Howard 4837C Winners Circle South Palm Springs, CA 92264 7/10/02
