CITYWIDE ARHM OVERLAY PROJECT
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council approve Contract Change Order No. 1 with Granite
Construction Company, for an increase of $47,605.00, for a total contract amount of
$223,781.17, for the Citywide ARHM Overlay Project, City Project 02-01.
SUMMARY:
Contract Change Order No. 1 will allow for the addition of Andee Drive, between Sonora
Road and East Palm Canyon Drive, to the Citywide ARHM overlay project.
BACKGROUND:
City Project No. 02-01 was awarded by the City Council at its August 7, 2002, meeting. The
project will install asphalt rubber hot mix (ARHM) overlays on Stevens Road, from Indian
Canyon Drive to its easterly end; Crossley Road, from Mesquite Avenue to 34`hAvenue;
Calle Abronia, from Ramon Road to Camino Parocela; and Calle Palo Fiero, from Sunny
Dunes Road to North Riverside Drive. Originally, the project was limited to these four
streets; however, the actual construction bid received from Granite Construction was far
below the Engineer's estimate, giving the City an opportunity to add another street to this
street maintenance project. Staff has identified Andee Drive, between Sonora Road and
East Palm Canyon Drive, as a street requiring repair and preventive maintenance through
the use of an ARHM overlay, and has negotiated a contract price with Granite Construction
consistent with its bid prices for its addition to the project.
Sufficient funds are available in account no. 134-4498-50100 (Slurry Seal Program).

C. REASON FOR CHANGE:
Perthe recommendation of the Public Works Director/City Engineer,cold plane existing asphalt pavement,
construct 1.5 in. ARHM overlay, adjust sewer manholes and instal traffic striping and markings on Andee
Road from Sonora Road to East Palm Canyon Drive. The City received exceptional unit prices from the
contractor and proposes to utilize this opportunity to include this street due to its current bad condition.
