HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/16/2002 - STAFF REPORTS (20) DATE: October 16, 2002 TO: City Council FROM: Chief of Police SUBJECT: Federal Grant Funding For Live Scan Fingerprint System, etc. RECOMMENDATION: Hold a Public Hearing and accept an award in the amount of $117,125.00 of LLEBG (Local Law Enforcement Block Grant) funds to purchasel) Portable Live Scan Fingerprint system. 2) Vehicle Mounted Video Camera Pilot Program 3) Mobile Data Communications Systems/Infrastructure and Computers for the Palm Springs Police Department; and amend the budget in the amount of$13,014. BACKGROUND: The Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance has awarded the Police Department $117,125 for FY 2002. A local match of$13,014 is required and will be funded out the Asset Forfeiture Account. The monies will be used to purchase the Portable Live Scan Fingerprint system at an approximate cost of$35,000. It will also be used for Mobile Data Communications Systems/Infrastructure and Computers, and to purchase Vehicle Mounted Video Cameras which as part of a pilot/evaluation program. The BJA requires the City to hold a Public Hearing to discuss the use of LLEBG grant monies. We will be returning to Council later for approval of the above equipment.
