HomeMy WebLinkAbout2/5/2003 - STAFF REPORTS (6) DATE: February 5, 2003 TO: City Council FROM: Executive Director-Airport CHANGE ORDER - RESIDENTIAL SOUND INSULATION PROGRAM - PHASE III RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council approve Change Order #1, with T & M Construction for the Airport's Residential Sound Insulation Program - Phase 111, for an increase of$54,221.78 for a total contract amount of$2,272,109.78. SUMMARY: This item is a recommendation to approve a change order on the airport's Residential Sound Insulation Project, increasing total cost by$54,221.78 with funding covered by FAA grant and Airport funds. BACKGROUND: On May 2, 2001, City Council adopted minute order No. 6840 approving a contract agreement for RSIP Phase III construction with T & M Construction. The FAA appropriated $2,000,000 under Airport Improvement Program (AIP) Project No. 3-06- 0181-27 and $2,000,000 (AIP) Project No. 3-06-0181-29 for a total of$4,000,000 for the Palm Springs International Airport RSIP program. This is the only change order associated with T & M Construction after having successfully completed the sound insulation process for 114 single family homes. Each home in this project is unique with respect to design and acceptable acoustical guidelines. Every item is specifically ordered and fabricated to fit the respective home. The cumulative changes involve various items at 77 separate homes and are within the guidelines acceptable to the FAA as related to sound insulation projects. The FAA has given their verbal approval for this change order. This project, was a unit cost contract where the original bid was based on estimated units of work and the contract is balanced based on actual units installed. Funds are available in Airport Account 415-6600-56039 and 415-6600-56047. The change order and a Minute Order are attached for City Council consideration. s ALLEN F. SMOOT, A. A. E.
