APPROVE CONSTRUCTION CHANGE ORDER NO. FIVE(5)TO DBX, INCORPORATED, CITY
PROJECT 00-05.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve Construction Change Order No. Five (5) to DBX,
Incorporated, for an increase of $9,506.89 for the Tahquitz Canyon Way Signal
Interconnect, City Project Number 00-05.
SUMMARY:
This change order to the Tahquitz Canyon Way Signal Interconnect project totals
$9,506.89, however the aggregate amount of all change orders will now exceed
$25,000.00. Therefore, in accordance with the terms of the Procurement
Ordinance, Council approval is required.
BACKGROUND:
On June 19, 2002, City Council of the City of Palm Springs awarded DBX
Incorporated the contractforthe Tahquitz Canyon Way Signal Interconnect project.
It was determined in the field by both the City and contractor that the existing
conductors for the traffic signal at Tahquitz Canyon Way and Avenida Caballeros
are in bad condition. Per the recommendation of the Director of Public Works/City
Engineer, the contractor shall remove the existing conductors and replace them
with new conductors per plans and specifications. (Increased cost = $8,800.00)
On Change Order No. 2, the contractor was to provide and install a Type III AF
Service Pedestal and Cabinet at the intersection of Sunset Way and Tahquitz
Canyon Way to complete the full modification of the traffic signal system. SCE
determined that the existing electrical connection from their facility to the existing
service pedestal,which provides electrical service to the landscape median and the
traffic signal, is sub-standard. In order to upgrade the electrical service to SCE
standards, for the proposed use, SCE requires the work within their vault to be
performed only by their approved contractor. This work will be performed by
Weissker, Inc., paid by DBX and this change order will reimburse DBX for this
required cost. (Increased cost = $ 706.89)
Additional working days are proposed to be added to the contract in accordance
with the terms of the change order.

C.REASON FOR CHANGE:

C. REASON FOR CHANGE:
Additional working days to be added per the following:
Schedule A, Bid Item No.7,Tahquitz Canyon Way and Calle Encilia
5 days added for delays while staff investigated locations of controller cabinet and service pedestal with
respect to existing right-of-way.
Schedule A, Bid Item D,Tahquitz Canyon Way and Avenida Caballeros
1 day added to remove and replace conductors
Schedule E, Bid Item No. B, consideration of time adjustment will be deferred until completion of the work.
Determination of commensurate time extension will be in accordance with the provisions of Sec. 8-1.07 of the
Standard Specifications, due to SCE's work schedule to coordinate work to de-energize existing service pedestal
and re-energize new service pedestal.
