HomeMy WebLinkAbout5/21/2003 - STAFF REPORTS (12) DATE: May 21, 2003 TO: City Council FROM: Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director of Procurement and Contracting PURCHASE OF PLAY EQUIPMENT FOR DEMUTH PARK. RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approve the purchase of play equipment for DeMuth Park from Miracle Recreation Equipment Company at the same volume discount pricing that it has set for the State of California, according to the state's terms and conditions, per CMAS (California Multiple Award Schedule) contract#4-99-78-0006A, for a total amount of$68,945,99, SUMMARY: Approval of this purchase via the State's CMAS contract pricing with Miracle Recreation Equipment Company will complete the replacement of all existing play structures in the City parks. BACKGROUND: Over the past several years, the Parks Division has been working toward the replacement and upgrade of all existing play structures in City parks to both modernize them and bring them in to compliance with current regulatory standards for accessability. The proposed structure at DeMuth Park is the last of six (6) play structures being upgraded through this multi-year program. Miracle Recreation Equipment Company provides the most extensive materials warranty in the business and its equipment is fully compliant with current standards, including ADA. In addition, due to Miracle's State of California price schedule,it is able to offer substantial discounts to the City that other equipment manufacturers do not. The Director of Procurement and Contracting, in accordance with Municipal Code Section 7.09.010 ,finds that the competitive process conducted by the State of California for the proposed purchase is sufficient to protect the public interest and the total cost of the equipment is likely to be less through the proposed cooperative purchase than could be obtained by conducting an independent process. 13A The play equipment replacement program has received a majority of its'funding in recent years from the annual Measure'Y" allocation to the Parks Division- The annual allocation for the Parks Division from Measure "Y" funds is intended to be used for capital improvements to the City's various parks and recreation facilities. Funds are available in Account Number 261-2494-61517, Park Play Equipment, Measure "Y" Improvements. COTT MIKESELL HAROLD E.
