HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/18/2003 - STAFF REPORTS (12) DATE: June 18, 2003 TO: City Council FROM: Director of Public Works/City Engineer Director of Parks, Recreation & Facilities DEMUTH PARK PLAYGROUND RENOVATION RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council approve and adopt the plans, specifications and working details, and authorize advertisement for construction bids for the DeMuth Park Playground Renovation, City Project 02-15. SUMMARY: Section 7,03.040 of the Procurement and Contracting Code requires that Council approve and adopt plans, specifications and working details, and authorize the bid request for all public projects in excess of $100,000. Approval of this project will allow staff to proceed with this public project, with a total estimated cost of $124,000. BACKGROUND: In previous fiscal years, the City has budgeted for playground equipment replacement at several locations and appropriated funds to facilitate the systematic replacement of play structures in parks throughout the City. Of top priority was replacement of equipment that was least compliant with playground safety standards. In previous years, the City has successfully replaced park playground equipment at Ruth Hardy Park, Sunrise Park, Victoria Park, DeMuth Park, and Baristo Park funded through "Utility Users Tax - Measure Y" funds. This latest playground equipment replacement project will continue replacement of playground equipment within DeMuth Park. Previously, the City Council authorized purchase of the playground equipment for this project from Miracle Recreation Equipment at its May 21, 2003, meeting. The plans and specifications for this project were prepared by Engineering Division staff, and will accomplish installation of the purchased playground equipment from Miracle Recreation Equipment, installation of rubberized playground surfacing and associated improvements. The project consists of two Bid Schedules: Bid Schedule A includes installation of the new play equipment and rubberized playground surfacing at two locations within DeMuth Park, and Additive Bid Schedule B includes removal of the existing play sand and installation of new clean sand. 10h DeMuth Park Playground Renovation June 18,2003 Page 2 The total estimate for the project is approximately $124,000. Funding for this project has been budgeted from general fund "Measure Y" funds, account number 241-2494-51517 (Park Play Equipment). Additional funding will be allocated as part of the Fiscal Year 2003/2004 Measure Y Program for construction of this project, with award to occur after July 1, 2003. This action is being brought before Council to be in compliance with the Procurement and Contracting Code. Upon Council's approval with this action, staff will schedule bid advertisements, with a bid opening date of July 15, 2003, SUBMITTED: DAVID J.
