Dear David:
State and county budgets cuts of $1.1 million and the rising cost of workmen's
compensation have left the Foundation of the Retarded with the awesome task of
compensating for the loss of these funds.
We are trying to do everything in our power to meet the short fall including
staging the first High School All Star Classic in the Coachella Valley. It's a three-
day event featuring the graduated seniors from 24 high schools. They will
compete on July 10-11 and 12 in football, baseball, softball and boys and girls
basketball.
Two of the events: baseball/softball at Municipal Stadium on July 10 and football
at Palm Springs High School on July 12—will be held in the city.
Not only are these events a possible fundraiser, but also they offer much needed
rewards, participation and an attraction for the city's youth.
We are asking the City of Palm Springs to contribute in kind services of four (4)
Police officers for a four-hour shift from 6:30 to 10:30 p,m. Saturday, July 12 to
act as security for the football game.
We appreciate your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Dr, Richard Farmer
