HomeMy WebLinkAbout7/16/2003 - STAFF REPORTS (7) DATE: July 16, 2003 TO: City Council FROM: Executive Director - Airports FEDERAL GRANT ACCEPTANCE RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to accept Federal Airport Improvement Program Grant 3-06-0181-36 on behalf of the Airport. SUMMARY: This action would enable the City to accept this year's airport federal grant in a timely fashion should it be issued during the month of August. BACKGROUND: Each yearthe airport receives grants underthe Airport Improvement Program(AIP). The airport receives an annual entitlement grant based on passenger activity and can compete for discretionary dollars as well. The airport's entitlements for this federal fiscal year are$3,573,242. The funds will be utilized to complete the funding of the roadway reconfiguration project, an interactive training system, and the first phase of the airport's access control system upgrade. The airport had previously been programed for$2 million in discretionary dollars, however, in early June those dollars were pulled back to fund security projects at other airports. There is still a remote chance that at the last minute some discretionary dollars will become available. The attached Minute Order would authorize the City manager to accept a grant up to $6 million to allow for the possibility of a last minute discretionary allocation. ALLEN F. SMOOT, A. A. E.
