Subject: good day/bad tidings
This is REALLY not one of my favorite things to do but most of you have
indicated that you want to know what's happening, good or bad. so here it is:
On Wednesday,July 2, someone broke into a house on Vaquerb and, shortly
after, bolted the wall into the house behind on Opuntia and broke in there as
well. Having spoken to the latter owner, I can say that(to date)nothing is
known to have been taken(but that might be because the perpetrator may have \
been scared off by a workrnan)but the back door was literally broken off the o/✓
hinges and must be replaced. It seems pointless...just a vandalism thing; in Y
most of the incidents comparatively little or nothing was taken but havoc was
wreaked upon the homes. The police came to both residences and said this is a
new version of"smash and grab";the guy(s)know that police response time is
about 5 minutes and he is/they are in-and-out in three or less. Everything
that has been reported thusfar has taken place on a weekday between
approximately 9 and 11 a.m. give or take a half hour on either side.
From what has been printed in the Desert Sun of late, this is certainly NOT
occurring in our neighborhood alone, The only"successes" for the police
department have been directly attributable to vigilant neighbors. If this is
going to stop, they emphasize,it is up to us. We need, they said,to check
all doors and screens, not open the door to strangers and get a picture of who
should/should NOT be in the vicinity. If you have any further information or
opinion, let me know. No one likes getting discomforting news; if you REALLY
don't like it,pleasejust tell me and I will not send any further a-mails
(except to announce meetings,etc.).

Subject: Update
Apparently,I had it wrong. There were THREE break-ins on the 2nd. One at the
top of Vaquero, another at the bottom, and another on Opuntia. In at least
two of those cases, the back doors were KICKED in,things scattered
everywhere. Keep looking!!
