Mayor & Council Members
City of Palm Springs
P.O. Box 2743
Palm Springs, CA 92263
Dear Mr. Mayor and City Council Members:
On behalf of the Tourism industry in Palm Springs, I am requesting that the City Council
approve the allocation of sponsorship dollars to bring back the Senior Softball World
Series to our city in September of 2004. This event, which was in our city in 1995 &
1998 would generate an estimated 3 million dollars in economic impact to the city of
Palm Springs during a month when we are generally running about 40% occupancies.
Taking into consideration that the Palm Springs Convention Center will be in "full blown"
construction...and that booking conventions into the September 2004 time frame will be
extremely difficult...we believe this request could not come at better time to
demonstrate our ability to create opportunities in a generally soft demand period.
Please note that when this event was here in 1998 a documented 3,715 room nights
were occupied at numerous hotels & resorts in our city (see attached).
We look forward to working with the Council on making this event happen in 2004. In
addition to the historical information from 1998, you will also find attached an outline of
Senior Softball's request to the city and participating businesses...along with what we
feel is a creative plan that will allow the majority of this request be placed into the
2004/2005 budget.
Mayor & City Council members, thank you for your time and continued support of the
tourism industry in Palm Springs. Repeat customers are our finest resource...and we
hope that to be the case with respect tothe 2004 Senior Softball World Series!
