SUBJECT: Federal Grant Funding for Personnel, Equipment and Technology.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Council hold a Public Hearing and accept an award in the amount of$88,871
of LLEBG (Local Law Enforcement Block Grant) funds to be used for personnel
costs, and to procure equipment and technology for the Palm Springs Police
Department; and approving matching funds of$9,865.
BACKGROUND:
The Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has awarded the Police
Department $88,781 for FY 2003. A local match of $9,865 is required and will be
funded out off the Asset Forfeiture Account. The grant will be used for personnel
costs, and to procure equipment and technology for the Palm Spring Police
Department. The BJA requires the City to hold a Public Hearing to discuss the use
of LLEBG monies.
We will be returning to Council later for approval of the grant expenditures. No
additional budget appropriation is necessary.

FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT GRANT FUNDS
CITY OF PALM SPRINGS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California,
has rescheduled a public hearing from its meeting of November 5, 2003, to its meeting of
November 19, 2003 which begins at 7:00pm in the City Council Chamber, 3200 E.
Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs.
The purpose of the hearing is to discuss the use of the State and Federal law
enforcement grant funds to be used for personnel costs and to procure egui m _n
and technology for the Palm Springs Police Department.
An opportunity will be given at said hearing for all interested persons to be heard.
Questions regarding the application of these funds may be directed to Gary Jeandron,
Chief of Police, Palm Springs Police Department, (760) 323-8126.
