APPROVE SALE OF SURPLUS SPECIALTY FURNITURE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve sale of surplus specialty furniture to
William G. Kleindienst according to the IRS 7 year property depreciation schedule: in
the amount of$9,099.62, which includes sales tax.
SUMMARY:
On November 22, 2000, furniture was purchased for the Mayor's office in the amount
of$15,924.34, including tax and delivery charges. The furniture is not suitable for the
requirements of the new Mayor. Due to its size and specialty nature, the furniture is
also not suitable for staff offices. Mayor Kleindienst has offered to purchase the
furniture. Staff recommends utilization of the standard IRS 7 year depreciation
schedule to determine the sale cost.
BACKGROUND:
Furniture was acquired by the City for the Mayor's office on 11/22/2000.
1. Original Cost: $15,9234.34, including tax and delivery
2. Annual Depreciation: $2,274.91 per year based on 7 year life
3. Years held by City: 3
4. Total Depreciation: $6,824.72
5. Undepreciated Value $9,099.62 (includes tax)

Purchase of this furniture was approved by City Council July 18, 2000, and the
furniture was received November 22, 2000. A cost detail is attached.
The revenue from the sale of this furniture will be used to remodel and furnish the
office space for the incoming Mayor and the City Council members. City Council is
being asked to approve this sale because in the opinion of staff, sale of the furniture
at the IRS depreciated cost will result in more revenue than would sale at a public
auction, the normal methodology utilized for selling surplus furniture of more routine
size and style.

California in a meeting thereof held on the 19" of November 2003.
