Mr. Mayor, I am here this evening as one citizen to thank you
personally for the number of years of public service you have given
to the people of Palm Springs.
Your intelligence, your grasp of the issues that face our city, your
wit and your charm have made you an extremely effectual Mayor
during these last many years. You have served ALL of the people of
Palm Springs!
I personally want to thank you for your support of the many issues
that have affected the gay community in Palm Springs. You have
been on the forefront of many issues that affected us as gay people.
Your support of flying the Rainbow Flag, your support of Gay
Veterans marching in the Veterans Day Parade, your support of
victims of hate crimes, your support of tourist venues that benefit
not only the gay community but the city in general are but a few of
your many accomplishments.
Some, during this campaign, have tried to paint you as homophobic.
Some people bought into that perception. I should know. I was one
of those in the past who criticized you. I will tell you however, that
after I got to know you I found you to be exactly the opposite of
what others had tried to make me believe.
I salute you tonight and thank you from the bottom of my heart for
your goodness and your ability. I will personally take your lead and
embrace the new Mayor and City Council Members with my utmost
respect and honor and pledge to work with them for the betterment
of all Palm Springs residents.
God bless you Mr. Kleindienst. You have been a gift to all of us.
