Tahquitz Canyon Way Palm Springs, California 92262 Re: Miss Teen USA Pageant Dear Mr. Ready, There seems to be a misunderstanding amongst the hotel community regarding the number of paid room nights, in speaking with my colleagues this week, it is my understanding the actual "trackable" paid room nights was closer to 1,700. Unfortunately, being the host hotel, once our rooms were sold out, naturally people had to seek accommodations elsewhere in Palm.Springs. The real value of the event was the media exposure Palm Springs received. According to statistics provided by NBC television, our destination was viewed by 7.1 million people and was televised nationally and internationally in 60 countries, a media value of $3.8 million. Also, the Nielson Ratings indicate the 2003 event out-delivered last year's CBS broadcast. These figures do not include the pre-event shows on NBC or station affiliates in the fifty states representing the pageant contestants. Additionally, Good Morning America did a feature via live remote the week of the event. This event has the potential to grow each year. As you may recall, last years pageant was moved to Palm Springs on such short notice, there was no pre-event publicity, therefore we are expecting the attendance and room nights to grow in 2004. You have my continued support and I will be happy to assist the staff of the Miss Universe Organization to ensure another successful event.
