Having just moved the Palm Springs three months ago after living in Los Angeles
for 30 years, in the visits while purchasing I found it distressing how in this short time
the pristine desert landscape is quickly being eroded away. As a Pisces in the desert, I
am indeed a fish out of water, but now what I call the "Welcome Horne" nine mile
approach into Palm Springs on highway 111, is being obliterated with new homes that
rise faster than could be imagined in what was just months before a visual "hello" from
a community that Palm Springs has been know for, a Mecca of peace and tranquility for
residents and tourists alike.
This overbuilding and encroachment into our once pristine, tranquil landscape
will, in the end, prove a disaster to the community, unless there is a concerted effort to
not bend and bow to those financial forces who, in their commercial interest, pillage
and burn the landscape for profits, much Bike Sherman in his March to the Sea, ieaving
residents to deal with the present and future lack of services to sustain all communities
effected by the unfettered growth. It is a Civil War of incivility to the environment that
deserves the respect it requires before it is lost forever.
I impair you, make the right decisions. Limit or do not allow such expansion
without real consideration to how this will affect those now and future generations
who wish Palm Springs remain unique and not become another Riverside eyesore,
Pomona Pandora, or Simi Valley ticky tacky, so in the end, does not look just the same.
It is not only our legacy, but yours that in the end will say, "Who was responsible
for this cress." Let your names not be the ones to blame for this impending cancerous
growth that is a disaster in the making for Palm Springs and surrounding communities.

Good evening Mayor Oden, City Council and company.
I am Mathieu Reynolds Avery Joyce Vadenscearce, but Lobo will do fine,
I am from the East coast, a place that was once simple, pleasant and liveable;
where one could actually walk on the beach, in the woods and out in the open
quietness.. Not any more-any more there than here. Development came, and came,
and came. The openness became filled with houses, businesses, apartment
complexes, clogged, congested. Pollution increased, water became scarce,
openness was lost, never to return-Just like in the Coachella valley.
Beaches, deserts, little difference when you have rampant development to excess.
All my life, all I ever wanted was to come to Palm Springs since seeing D.W.
Griffith's films and Rudolph Valentino's films done here. The films done here
from the 1930's to 1950's, then in the 1960's seeing "Palm Springs Weekend" dad
it. Forget San Francisco, Haight Ashbury and the free love hippies.
For me, Palm Springs , California was the only place, for me.
In 19921 came here for a two week visit to see a friend. Before I left, I bought a
place. For three years I came twice a year for a short visit. Then in 1995, when
congress could not settle on a budget and I got dumped before I qualified for my
retirement benefits, I came to sell my place. I was offered a job. I have never left
California since, And I never will for any reason!
California has given me a life, a reason to Iive..My life began here at 55, before I
only existed.
I brought my Mom out in 1995; she's still here, she has never left either, and never
will. I could care less about having to go down valley to shop. Palm Springs'
business is tourism. Do something about that ! A trip out of town is my only exit..
Let the other cities have it.
Please do not turn Palm Springs into just another city.
"When" is enough, enough ?
Thank You.
