FEDERAL GRANT ACCEPTANCE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to accept
Federal Airport Improvement Program Grant 3-06-0181-37 on behalf of the Airport.
SUMMARY:
This action would enable the City to accept this year's airport federal grant in a
timely fashion should it be issued during the month of August.
BACKGROUND:
Each yearthe airport receives grants underthe Airport Improvement Program(AIP).
The airport receives an annual entitlement grant based on passenger activity and
can compete for discretionary dollars as well.
The airport's entitlements for this federal fiscal year are scheduled to be
$3,622,470. These funds will be utilized to complete the passenger screening
security checkpoint expansion. The airport is also requesting $3,250,260 in
discretionary funds for upgrading the Security Access Control Systems(SACS)and
the Public Information Display System (PIDS). While the discretionary funds are
not guaranteed, we have been told by the FAA that there is a very good here is still
chance that we will receive the full amount as requested.
The proposed projects are 95%funded by the FAA grant with the Airport's share at
5%. The attached Minute Order would authorize the City manager to accept a grant
up to $7 million to allow for the ossibility of a last minute discretionary allocation.
