DATE: MARCH 12, 2008 CONSENT CALENDAR
SUBJECT: AWARD OF PURCHASE ORDER CONTRACT FOR THE
REPLACEMENT OF EXTERIOR GLASS DOORS FOR THE LIBRARY
CENTER
FROM: David H. Ready, City Manager
BY: Library Services Department
Public Works and Engineering Department
SUMMARY
Award of this contract would allow the Library to use Measure Y funds to replace all
existing glass doors on the Library Center Building.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. APPROVE A PURCHASE ORDER CONTRACT IN THE AMOUNT OF
$36274.00 WITH MAGIK GLASS & DOOR, FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF
EXTERIOR GLASS DOORS OF THE LIBRARY CENTER.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The Library Center building was completed in 1975. The newest of the glass exterior
doors are the main entrance electric doors, installed in 1995. Due to heavy use over
the years, building settling, seismic activity, sun damage, and materials age, none of the
doors close or lock properly. This makes the Library Center prone to vandalism and
burglary as well as loss of heating and cooling energy. In addition due to the age of the
security system, there are no alarms on the exit doors panic bars thereby providing
easy illegal exit opportunities.
Project specifications have been prepared by the Library and Public Works/Facilities
Maintenance Department staff.
