APPROVE PURCHASE OF CARPET TILES FOR CONVENTION CENTER PHASE II
EXPANSION VIA STATE OF CALIFORNIA CONTRACT
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the cooperative purchase of carpet tile from The
Invironmentalist,of Fullerton,CA in the amount of$221,051.67 via participation in a State of California
Multiple Award Schedule (CMAS) contract.
SUMMARY:
This purchase would provide carpet the for the exhibit areas of the expanded Convention Center that
match existing carpet installed as part of Phase I of the Convention Center Expansion Project,
BACKGROUND:
The exhibit hall areas of the Palm Springs Convention Center are covered with carpet tiles. Carpet
tile is utilized because it provides greater flexibility in maintenance activities. Individual tiles may be
replaced when stained or damaged, rather than whole swaths of carpet if rolled gods where utilized.
The carpet recommended for purchase matches carpet installed at the Convention Center as Part
of the Phase I expansion. It is available off a State of California contract which covers all materials,
equipment and labor required.
The Director of Procurement and Contracting, pursuant to the requirements of Section 7.09.010 of
the Municipal Code, finds that utilizing the State of California CMAS contract for the proposed carpet
is adequate to protect the public interest, and the total cost of the materials and installation is likely
to be less than could be obtained through an independent City competitive process.
Funds are available in account#261-4283-50003, Convention Center Phase ll, Building and
Equipment Account.
