HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/17/2004 - STAFF REPORTS (10) DATE: November 17, 2004 TO: City Council FROM: Gary Jeandron, Chief of Police AMENDMENT TO THE COMPREHENSIVE FEE SCHEDULE RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council approve the amendment to the Comprehensive Fee Schedule, increasing the fees for Concealed Weapons Permits and related fees to cover the City's costs. SUMMARY: The State of California Department of Justice has increased fees associated with fingerprinting and the processing of criminal records an average of 36%. The amendment to the Comprehensive Fee Schedule would increase the fees charged for the issuance and renewal of Concealed Weapon Permits and for the use of the department's firearms range and training classes to reflect the increased cost of providing these services. Currently there are two duplicate categories in the fee schedule "Concealed Weapon Permit" and "Concealed Carry Weapon Permit". It is recommended that the "Concealed Weapon Permit" category be deleted. The fees would increase an average of 36%. The entire fee increases will go to the Department of Justice for their increased costs. BACKGROUND: The State of California Department of Justice has recently increased the fees charged for fingerprinting and processing criminal records information for Concealed Weapons permits. Due to changes in federal law and increased costs to the City, changes to the Comprehensive Fee Schedule fees are required to cover the increase in fees. The fee increase would apply to the use of the Police Department's firearms range, firearms training classes, and all fingerprinting and processing of criminal records. By approving these fee increases the City will be able to collect the actual costs of providing these services. FISCAL IMPACTS By approving these fee increases the City will be able to accurately collect the cost of prev'I-ding theservices. GAR `grVDRON Chief o olice APPROVED: City Manager Attachments: 1.
