HomeMy WebLinkAbout22327 - RESOLUTIONS - 7/30/2008 RESOLUTION NO. 22327 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, CONSENTING TO THE OPERATION OF A MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL TOURISM BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT. WHEREAS, the County of Riverside has received a request to initiate the process for the formation of a multi-jurisdictional Business Improvements District, from the Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Authority; and WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council that the hotel and motel businesses located within the City of Palm Springs and the proposed Tourism Business Improvement District, will benefit from the activities of a business improvement district and the purpose sought to be accomplished by the work can be accomplished by a single comprehensive scheme of work; and WHEREAS, consenting cities will participate in the proposed Tourism Business Improvement District by authorizing the County of Riverside to collect the assessment applied to certain hotels and motels within the City of Palm Springs; and WHEREAS, on July 1, 2008, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Riverside, adopted Resolution No. 2008-330 requesting consent of the cities to create the multi- jurisdictional business improvement district, and appointed an advisory board pursuant to §36530 of the California Streets and Highways Code to recommend the provisions of the Resolution of Intention. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council consents to the creation of a multi-jurisdictional tourism business improvement district, and grants to the Board of Supervisors of the County of Riverside, jurisdiction in the creation and operation of the proposed business improvement district, with input from the lodging businesses and participating cities.
