PURCHASE OF PARK SIGNS
RECOMMENDATION
That City Council approve the purchase of seven (7) entry and directional signs
for the entrances to Ruth Hardy Park, Victoria Park and Sunrise Plaza from
Wausau Tile in an amount not to exceed $36,087.36.
SUMMARY
Replacement of the entry and directional signs at the entrance to the various City
parks has been a long-standing priorityforthe Parks and Recreation Commission.
Several years ago,the replacement of entry and directional signs was started, with
Desert Highland Park being the first of many City parks to have the new precast
concrete monument entry sign. Money was allocated this year through the
Measure "Y" allotment to the Parks and Recreation Department to continue this
entry sign replacement project. The Commission wanted to speed up the priority
of replacing these signs with the new style concrete type to be consistent with
those recently installed at Desert Highland Park, Baristo Park and the Palm
Springs Skate Park and Swim Center.
BACKGROUND
Several years ago, the Parks and Recreation Commission envisioned replacing
all the entry and directional signs at the various City parks, knowing that the
replacement at all City parks would take several years to complete because of the
number of signs needed and the cost.
Desert Highland Park was the first park to receive the new precast concrete
monument sign, which honors James O. Jessie.
Baristo Park was next in line to receive the new entry sign through Community
Development Block Grant Funds.
As part of the Palm Springs Skate Park construction project and the renovation of
the Swim Center, a new entry sign was put into place at the entrance to the
facilities.
Ruth Hardy Park, Victoria Park and Sunrise Plaza are the next parks in line to
receive new entry and directional signs to conform with those installed at the other
parks.
All the new signs were purchased through Wausau Tile and, to be consistent with
the signs already in place, we are recommending that the City accept the single
bid received.
