PETITION TEXT To: Riverside County Supervisors and Local City Councils Background: The County of Riverside seeks to construct the largest detention center in the County at the gateway to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley_ The facility will cost approximately $500 million to construct and will house up to 7,200 prisoners according to the Notice of Environmental Impact dated Dec. 2, 2008. The notice states that valley residents have only 30 days to review and comment on this project. THEREFORE: We the undersigned, strongly object to the construction of the Riverside County Regional Detention Center located on 1-10 at the entrance to the Coachella Valley. FURTHERMORE, we demand that the Riverside County Supervisors and all Local Government Officials work together to select an alternate site that will not have such a negative impact.
