SUBJECT: PROPOSED ORDINANCE MODIFYING THE COMMENCMENT OF
REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS

SUMMARY:
The City Council will consider introducing an ordinance that will modify the start time of
Regular City Council meetings from 7:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Introduce on first reading Ordinance No. , "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY
OF PALM SPRINGS CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 2.04.010 OF THE
PALM SPRINGS MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO THE TIME FOR THE
COMMENCEMENT OF REGULAR MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL."
STAFF ANALYSIS:
At its February 9, 2005 meeting the City Council directed staff to prepare an ordinance
to modify the time the City Council meetings start.
The current provisions of the Palm Springs Municipal Code provide that regular
meetings of the City Council will commence at 7:00 P.M. The attached ordinance will
provide that the time the Regular City Council meetings will commence is set at the hour
of 6:00 P.M. or other such time as the City Council establishes by resolution.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None. The City may realize some minor savings in overtime as meetings adjourn
earlier, but the majority of staff that attend meetings are exempt employees.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 2.04.010 OF THE PALM
SPRINGS MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO THE TIME FOR
THE COMMENCEMENT OF REGULAR MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL.
City Attorney Summary
The current provisions of the Palm Springs Municipal Code provide
that regular meetings of the City Council will commence at 7:00
p.m. This ordinance will provide that the time of the regular City
Council meeting will commence at the hour of 6:00 p.m. or such
time as the City Council establishes by resolution.
The City Council of the City of Palm Springs ordains:
Section 1. Section 2.04.010 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code is amended to read
to read:
2.04.010 Meetings — Place — Days - Month
Regular meetings of the City Council shall be held in the City Hall, 3200
Tahquitz-McCallum Way, in the city, on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at
the hour of 6:00 p.m. or such other time as the City Council may establish by resolution.
Section 2. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and
adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same, or the summary thereof, to be
published and posted pursuant to the provisions of law and this Ordinance shall take
effect thirty (30) days after passage.
