deny the permit for the timeshares on Mesquite in back of the
Macgruder Chevrolet company. The timeshare project is flawed
booth arch!tecturally and financially.
As a timeshare, this project will not generate the turnover of
guests that a hotel will produce, More turnover means more
people patronizing the downtown. The TOT will suffer, too. No
lump sum payment from the timeshare can equal a stream of
TOT in perpetuity from a hotel.
Architecturally, the timeshare's design resembles the phalanx
of high-rises found along the Florida coast, rather than a gracious,
low rise luxury hotel like the historic La Quinta Inn or Pebble
Beach, which would be appropriate designs for this location.
The Fairfield owners propose another faux Tuscany theme.
There are no six story high-rises in Tuscany! The project's ten 62'
buildings on 20' foundations will block views of the mountains
from Palm Canyon Drive and also shed light to all surrounding
properties at night.
We are delighted you are thinking about movie star glamour for
Palm Springs, but we do not believe this project as configured will
ever have the star power to attract Hollywood to Palm Springs.

Re: Post-election Statement
On March 8 h, the Save Our Mountains campaign achieved an enormous victory in stopping the Palm
Hills project. If we had not prevailed, Pahn Hills would have established a precedent for extensive
development across our local mountains. Now, given the results on March 8"', it is clear that we have a
different precedent: The people of Palm Springs will go to the polls to protect our local mountains.
Additionally, we could not be more appreciative of our countless volunteers and supporters, and we
express our gratitude to everyone who voted on Election Day.
Although the Mountain Preservation Initiative did not prevail, we believe this result was due primarily
to the fact that there was a significant amount of confusion and misinformation regarding the measure.
News media exit polls reported that many voters mistakenly voted No on Measure B thinking that they
were saying No to hillside development.
Further, we wish to continue working with the City for the adoption of meaningful protections of our
mountains and vital surrounding open spaces, and intend to present a number of specific proposals in the
near future. We are more optimistic than ever that we can preserve our unique natural heritage for the
future generations that will follow.
As a point of clarification, we are very grateful for the volunteer work of Vic Gainer in our recent
campaign, however, news reports that Vic Gainer is the former Chairman of the Save Our Mountains
committee are inaccurate. Vic was not a member of the Save Our Mountains executive committee nor
was he elected to the role of Chairman. Clearly, the misinformation regarding the Chairman title should
have been corrected earlier. Mr. Gainer has no current connection with the Save Our Mountains
organization, which is comprised of an executive committee consisting of Joan Taylor, Frank Gaydos,
April Hildner, Jeff Morgan, and myself, nor(b i�authorized to enter into discussions on behalf of Save
Our Mountains.
In summary, our campaign was received by the people of Palm Springs with immense passion and
resolve, perhaps in ways never seen before in this City. We will continue this work as the Save Our
Mountains committee to ensure that mountain area protections remain in the forefront of public
discourse.

We are creating a new prototype to challenge every other city, with a heart,
to "think outside the box". Not everyone can afford the
pricey tickets for fundraisers. Yes, we are bombarded for requests for
donations to an endless list of causes. But, many of us are left to wonder
where the monies were applied and how much impact was actually made
by our donations. As host sponsor, Femmenal will not only contribute 25%
of sales directly to The Lupus Foundation of America; but any and all
additional direct contributions (tax deductible) will be forwarded: i.e. ALL
NET PROCEEDS will be donated, without "fundraising costs, or event
costs, or administration costs", etc, as they have been provided by host
sponsor.
