Ready, City Manager BY: Director of Public Works/City Engineer SUMMARY: Approval of this item will provide exclusive motorcycle parking on a permanent basis along the north curb of Amado Road adjacent to Rage Clothing and the Kickstand Grill & Bar. Restricted parking will be from Thursdays at 6:OOpm until Sundays at 11:00pm for motorcycles only. RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Resolution No. " A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA ESTABLISHING MOTORCYCLE PARKING FOR THE NORTH SIDE OF AMADO ROAD BETWEEN NORTH PALM CANYON DRIVE TO A POINT SIXTY (60) FEET WESTERLY THEREFROM BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 6:OOPM ON 'THURSDAYS UNTIL 11:OOPM ON SUN DAYS". STAFF ANALYSIS: On November 17, 2004, City Council approved establishment of an exclusive motorcycle parking area along the north curb of Amado Road westerly of North Palm Canyon Drive. This parking allowed motorcycles only from North Palm Canyon Drive to a point sixty(60)feet westerly therefrom from Thursdays at 6:OOpm to Sundays at 11:00pm. City Council approved this on a trial basis for six months. This trial period expires in May of 2005. The Downtown Development Director has discussed the issue with Main Street and the Merchants and desire to establish the motorcycle parking on a permanent basis. The signs were installed by the City with the cost being paid by business owners. Approval of this Resolution will establish this motorcycle parking area in accordance with Section 12.32.010 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code. SUBMITTaLl APPROVED BY: DAVID J. BARAKIAN DAVID H. WHEREAS, Minute Order No. 7585 by the City Council established a motorcycle parking zone on a six-month trial basis on November 17, 2004; and WHEREAS, said zone is located along the north curb of Amado Road between North Palm Canyon Drive and a point sixty (60) feet westerly therefrom; and WHEREAS, this zone was established for motorcycle parking only between the hours of 6:OOpm on Thursdays until 11:OOpm on Sundays; and WHEREAS, the Downtown Development Director and Main Street recommend establishing this parking zone a permanent basis; and WHEREAS, Section 12.32.010 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code allows certain parking prohibitions when established by City Council Resolution. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: That the north side of Amado Road between North Palm Canyon Drive and a point sixty (60) feet westerly therefrom between the hours of 6:OOpm on Thursdays until 11:OOpm on Sundays is hereby established as a "Motorcycle Parking Only" zone. Parking of any vehicles other than motorcycles in said zone between hours noted above is prohibited. ADOPTED THIS 181h day of May, 2005. David H.
