HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/1/2005 - STAFF REPORTS (18) Jerry, Below is a copy of what I sent the council. Wesley Jerry Ogburn, THE GOON: Below is a list of stores, restaurants, buildings and projects that Jerry Ogburn has been involved in to one degree or another. From what I understand he was very involved Some of the businesses have been here years, some are new, some are on the way and some hope to become part of downtown. All of them are important to Palm Springs. How many times has someone asked or told each of you privately and publically, "Is that all you do all day?" "Your job isn't that hard. I could do it!" "Why did it take you so long to get that job done?" or better yet, "I£you don't do it better or faster we will get rid of you!" In your heart you know the answer to all of those questions and you know the job is harder and takes longer and requires more behind the scenes work than the one questioning you will EVER understand. You also know some of them will never be pleased and will not show appreciation. But you do your best anyway. Please take a slow look at the list below and see what Jerry Ogburn has done. Who else within City Hall could have done it alone or without Jerry? Of those against Jerry, who could have made those deals work? Jerry has done a lot of good. Jerry Ogburn THE BAIL;': The bad is what some in this town are trying to do without knowing the ENTIRE story and what goes on behind a deal to make it work. Then the deal has to make it through the long rolls of Red Tape at City Hall ..no matter how "business friendly" Palm Springs claims to be now or then. Jerry Ogburn THE UGLY: The ugly is what will happen to the City of Palm Springs in "the interest" of helping Palm Springs if the people who do not see all the facts control those who do see all the facts. Jerry Ogburn, like the City Council, was put in a job because of experience and knowledge. Let him do his work with input, guidance AND SUPPORT. Replacing Jerry Ogburn in mid-stream will put us in the same place as attempting to replace all the other City staff for the last year...BEHIND THE S BALL. po 111E Ll1 i Retail Shops 1-Heusso Gallery 2-Peppertree Book Store(relocation and expansion) 3-Madison Jewelry(relocation and expansion) 4-Hemingers Fudge 5-Desert Art Center 6-Mitchell Gold +Bob Williams 7-Design Within Reach 8-Don Vincent Mens Wear (relocation) 9-Avalon Bay (relocation) 10-Clockworks I I-Mosaic Womens Wear (relocation) 12-The Springs Resort Shops 13-Palm Springs Wine and Art 14-Crazy Shirts 15-McCormicks Classic Car Showroom Restaurants/Food Service 1-LGs Prime Steak House 2-Village Pub 3-Kaiser Grille 4-Blue Coyote Grille 5-Pahn Springs Chop House and Deck 6-Look Bistro 7-Las Casuelas Terraza (expansion) 8-Peabodys Coffee and Jazz 9-Koffi 10-Fisherman Market and Grille l I-Starbucks Coffee 12-Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf 13-Rubys Diner 14-A1 Dente Pasta 15-Lala Java 16-Edgardos Cafe Vera Cruz 17-Cafe 285 18-Tonys Pasta Mia 19-Lotza Mozza/Pizza and Pasta 20-International House of Pancakes Attractions 1-Palm Canyon Theatre 2-The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies/Plaza Theatre (property manager) 3-The Village Green (property manager) I i New Development/Redevelopment Projects 1-Mercado Plaza 2-The Vineyard 3-Cornerstone Center 4-The Corridor 5-Terrace Eateries/Fresh Food Court 6-Telephone Building/Palm Springs Brewery 7-The Palm Canyon Mixed Use Development (submitted to City) 8-North Gateway Mixed Use Development (in design) 9-Desert Fashion Plaza Mixed Use Development (in design) 10-Oasis Plaza Mixed Use Development (in design) 11-Andreas/Tahquitz Corridor Mixed Use Development (in conceptual planning) Public Improvement Projects 1-Palm Canyon Drive Streetscape and Decorative Lighting Improvements 2-Arenas Road Streetscape and Decorative Lighting Improvements 3-City of Palm Springs Downtown Parking Structure (property acquisition and design concept) 4-City Parking Lot Upgrades (6) 5-Frances Stevens Park Festival Center Upgrades 6-Uptown/Heritage District Decorative Lighting Program 7-Heritage Trail 8-East Tahquitz Canyon Way Decorative Lighting Program I would like us to all take a moment in remembering what businesses have either left the downtown district over the past several years or have closed their businesses for good: In no particular order: Saks Fifth Avenue Candy Apple Baskin& Robbins Paper Lilly i Leeds & Sons Jewelers Paul's Music Place Hamburger Hamlet Aristokatz Natures Touch Ideal World La Mariposa Desmonds Taqueria Carlos Italian Deli Listen, My Children Bookstore The News Caf6 Atlas Restaurant The Saloon Canyon Bistro The Lobster Company Mykonos The Pnut Gallery Vintage Marketplace Bombay Grill Crosswalk Cafe Industry Ride Shop La Provence Tony Roma's Eli's Deli The Flower Drum Coffee.Com Sam Bork Shoes Mirage (1 of 2 remaining) Lapert's Ice Cream Capra's Chocolateria Loads of Fun The Diet Center Euramum Mango Daddy's TCBY Dani C's g 0 Sausalito Silver 9 TOGO's U, The Scooter Mart And of course, Celebrity Books will be closing its doors on July 4 1h $ Stay tuned for other businesses on our block who are packing today!
