HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/15/2005 - STAFF REPORTS (19) City Council, Staff Dana Stewart and James McKinley, Palm Springs 6-15-05 Ms. Foat and Mr. Pougnet are exempt from the following: We formally request a written response to this letter. "DISSED" We guess you can say that we're thoroughly dis-gusted with this City. The dis-guise of caring for the public's participation in your forums is disappearing. The apologists for the dis-regard of the General Plan are dis-seminating disinformation. The zoning is meant to match the General Plan. Not change the General Plan to match the mass developers'zoning. We have been repeatedly dis-enfranchised, and the worst of it regards the disloyalty of the sale of the water treatment facility without the vote of the people. This shows a total dis-respect for the input of the public. The City and the DWA,with our money, launched a campaign to hide the very real water crisis we face. They hid the true seriousness, and the huge costs. The many sins of omission, equate to sins of commission. They hid the 2001 adverse EPA water use report 'til just months ago. 1. Everything is timed for the days, and "seasons°to deny input. Half the people are out of town or working. All the more amazing we won over Palm Hills, and probably won the Initiative also, over the obstructionist campaign of the well-funded opponents. 2. Mr. Mills and John Wessman have both served on the Planning Commission. The empty Fashion Plaza has strangled local business downtown for years, paving the way for the demolition of many historic buildings. Mr.Wessman has leveraged the devastatingly empty Plaza for more devastation of our pristine lands and views. Now you have the audacity to try to pay for his required EIR with OUR money! $ ! Please, hire a couple of firemen. 3. PDDs are way over-abused in allowing the General Plan to be violated. Height restrictions are dumped, setbacks reduced, density increased- Everything is a damn PDD. Too-tall,too dense new projects sail through. Restoration and long-time retailers are"chopped liver".The Ogbum contract was the most horrendous dis-play, yet, of cronyism and collusion, over common sense, that we have ever witnessed. No more"Yes Men"for Wessman. 4. Now the big, ugly, racqueteering of Racquet Club begins with the unnecessary and stratospherically expensive installation of sewers to pave the way for 15 units of Tuscany Heights and Wessman's developments, with no EIR, no public input response, and no notice. We pay,the City collects, and the developer is paid back. 5. And for the topper, WE have paid, through the tax breaks to the DWA,forthem to buy our property and the lobbyists to deny our right to vote on the sale of our most valuable asset—our water treatment plant's$3+ Million income, and control. We are dis- enfranchised,AGAIN. How does that make the people of this city feel? It rhymes with DISSED. Y?2ay GG tActMflT 'E,lA0°—I
