SUBJECT: AMENDMENT NO. I TO ARCHITECURAL SERVICES AGREEMENT
A5924 WITH ESCALANTE ARCHITECTS, ADDING CIVIL
ENGINEERING DESIGN SERVICES FOR THE WELWOOD MURRAY
MEMORIAL LIBRARY PROJECT.

SUMMARY
This action will approve an amendment which adds civil engineering design work to the
Welwood Murray Memorial Library Project design contract.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Approve Amendment No. 1 to Agreement No. 5924 with Escalante Architects
adding civil engineering design service to the Welwood Murray Memorial Library
project design contract in an amount not to exceed $8,500, and
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
When the original design contract with Escalante Architects was proposed and
approved for the Welwood Murray Memorial Library remodel project it was thought that
Civil Engineering design work would not be necessary. As the team has gotten further
into the design the need to develop a proper drainage plan for the enclosed patio area
has become evident. The architect has received a proposal from Sanborn Engineering
to carry out the necessary work for a fee not to exceed $8500. The work will include
survey, topographic, drainage and grading design. The attached Amendment 1 would
add the work to the Escalante contract.

The funding for the additional civil design services for the Welwood Murray Memorial Library

AMENDMENT NO. 1
AGREEMENT NO. 5924 -- ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES
THIS FIRST AMENDMENT to Agreement No. 5924 for consulting services, (herein
"Amendment") made and entered into on the day of , 2008, by and
between the CITY OF PALM SPRINGS (herein "City") and ESCALANTE ARCHITECTS
(herein "Architect") is hereby amended effective as follows:
RECITALS
WHEREAS, City and Architect entered into that certain Consulting Services Agreement
No. 5924 for Architectural Services ("Agreement") for the Welwood Murray Memorial
Library Project, as duly amended from time to time; and
WHEREAS, the parties wish to amend the Agreement to add civil engineering work
assignments.
NOW, THEREFORE, for good and sufficient consideration, the parties agree as follows:
Section 1.
Article I, Section E, Design Development Phase, is hereby amended by adding a work
item 4, Civil Engineering, which shall include topographic, drainage, sewer and grading
design work all related to said project.
Section 2.
Article III, Section A.B. is hereby added: "Civil Engineering Compensation. Civil
Engineering design work as outlined in Section 1 above shall be billed at an amount not
to exceed $8,500."
Section 3.
Full Force and Effect: Except as previously modified herein, all other provisions of the
Agreement shall remain unmodified in full force and effect.
