SUBJECT: Airport Improvement Project Federal Grant — Perimeter Fence
Improvements / Professional Services

SUMMARY
Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) receives federal grants under the Federal
Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to fund many eligible
projects. This action will authorize the acceptance of a new grant specifically for the
professional services needed to complete airport perimeter fence improvement project.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Authorize the City Manager to accept Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Grant
No. 3-06-0181-XX in the amount of$195,226 for Perimeter Fence Improvements—
Design and Construction Phase Services.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
Under the oversight and support of the Transportation Security Administration and the
Federal Aviation Administration, the Airport Department has identified a need to improve
a sizeable portion its perimeter fence line to more adequately address security and
operational requirements. To accomplish that, the FAA is providing a grant to fund the
professional services associated with .designing the project and providing construction
management oversight. Once this grant is received, a professional services agreement
with the Airport's consulting engineer firm RS&H California, Inc. will be presented to

Council for approval.
Although the Airport Commission has not met at the time of publication of the Council agenda,
they are scheduled to meet on July 21 to make the recommendation.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in the following accounts for the Perimeter Fence Design grant:
(FAA 95%): $195,226�416-6601-56012 (FY 09/10 Budget— Continuing Appropriation)
(City 5%): $10,275�'416-6401-56102 (FY 09/10 Budget— Continuing Appropriation).
