Mariscal Road Palm Springs, CA 92262-2907 (760) 325-5398 /charlessachs@verizon.net September 23, 2010 l Mr. Craig A. Ewing, AICP Director of Planning Services City of Palm Springs ' 3200 E.Tahquitz Canyon Way Palm Springs, CA 92262 L4 yK SUBJECT: Casa de Oro Tree Replacement Dear Mr. Ewing: Thank you for the heads up before last night's public comments clarifying what the City can and can not do in my obvious annoying to the Council complaints about the illegal destruction of 23 trees over three years ago by property manager Cindy Anderson. I am sure if one of them had taken a few moments to visit the complex and see the total destructive effect this has had, especially in the so calling greening campaign they are claiming to do though out the city, they would be more sympathetic. One can only imagine if it had happened to them what they would do. My September 12, 2008 letter addressed new plans to replant. I do not think the association ever submitted any, and in originals I reviewed, it was greatly flawed with many trees not noted and surely are original. I took photos of the cut stumps. Now to hear all you can do is request a new plan and, if done, only replace with 24 gallon trees, is really almost worthless. It would take 20 years or more to equal the stature of most that were destroyed. Lastly they could not bother to submit a plan and the destruction is a fete du compte. Thank you Cindy Anderson and her mother Maryellen Hill and Associates. This shows, in fact, the city's system is greatly flawed. In short, someone could cut down a row of trees, like John Wessman did, and get away with it and not plant anything in its place. It seems that any tree can fall victim of illegal cutting and if this became the norm,we could soon be treeless and shade less in Palm Springs. What needs to be done is review City policies and regulations on this and similar matters to stop vindictive or illegal actions, like Cindy Anderson did to me and others critical of her management. I am sorry I missed your call this last summer to have then seen you. I did not have my car for seven months and the reason not at meetings either. I look to you for further suggestions if any? Do I have to send a demand letter to the City to ask for new condo association landscape plan or is this a truly a dead dead tree issue? It is this lack of concern, and other issues, that I have found in the time I have lived here makes Palm Springs not a city of my choice. I tell many of the facts of the problems; a majority agrees is the case and the reason for this city's decline. That was why I addressed the questionable Palm Springs Film Festival practices instead of trees. Thank you for.that timely opportunity. 1 hope that money is not given away blindly again. You trul , ch Cc: David Ready, City Manager; Mayor Steve Pougnet, Mayor pro tern Rick Hutcheson, Council members Ginny Foat, Chris Mills and Lee Weigel
