SUBJECT: SUPPLEMENTAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES FUND (SLESF)
GRANT

SUMMARY
Each year the Palm Springs Police Department receives funding from the State of
California to supplement the Department's budget. No matching funds are required to
obtain these funds. The funds will be used to purchase new computer components and
technology, including hardware, program software, and other equipment essential to
installation, use and maintenance.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Adopt Minute Order No. , approving the expenditure plan for the
Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund (SLESF) Grant from the State of
California.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The Palm Springs Police Department annually receives funds from the State to
:supplement the Department's budget. These funds are distributed through the Counties
n the state, and this year we have been awarded $100,000.
It is proposed that these funds be used to purchase new computer components and
technology, including hardware, software and equipment essential to installation, use
and maintenance.

SLESF
This request is to meet the requirements of SB823, enacted in April 2002. The bill
amended Government Code Sections 30061 and 30063, requiring City Councils to
appropriate the funds exclusively for law enforcement.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact. Additionally, there are no matching funds required to obtain this grant.
