SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE BUDGET AMENDMENT OF $350,000 TO THE MOTOR
VEHICLE REPLACEMENT RESERVES FOR THE PURCHASE OF CITY
VEHICLES AND SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT
FROM: David H. Ready, City Manager
BY: City Manager's Office and Department of Finance and Treasury
SUMMARY
The recommended action would amend the budget of the Motor Vehicle Replacement
Reserves Budget allowing for an increase of$350,000 to purchase previously approved
vehicles and specialized equipment.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution No. "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE
2005-06 FISCAL YEAR" (TO INCREASE MOTOR VEHICLE REPLACEMENT
RESERVES BUDGET BY $350,000 FROM THE MVR FUND BALANCE)
STAFF ANALYSIS:
Earlier this year the City Council tentatively approved the purchase of various city
vehicles including 16 police sedans, 5 motorcycles, and various other city pickups and
utility vehicles. These vehicles had also been recommended for replacement by the
C:ity's Fleet Management Committee. A certain portion of the vehicles had been
identified for replacement the previous fiscal year, but the bids and final authorizations
for purchase were not completed until this fiscal year. The remainder of the vehicles
are to be purchased in the next few months.
In addition to the vehicles, a certain amount of specialized equipment will need to be
installed on the new police sedans that can not be transferred over from the current
vehicles. The Police Department is currently finishing the final list of equipment that will
need to be replaced on the new sedans. A'

Authorize Budget Amendment of$350,000 to the Motor Vehicle Replacement Reserves for the Purchase
of City Vehicles and Specialized Equipment
The proposed budget amendment will authorize increasing the motor vehicles account
by $200,000 and the specialized equipment by $150,000. There were funds budgeted in
last year's budget and were not used, because the bids and purchases were not
completed until this fiscal year. However, those budgeted funds were not included in
this year's continuing appropriations and were returned to the current fund balance. This
budget amendment will restore that funding to these accounts.
FISCAL IMPACT
The proposed budget amendment will increase the motor vehicles account by $200,000
and the specialized equipment account by $150,000 in the motor vehicle replacement
fund. There are adequate funds in the Motor Vehicle Replacement Fund Balance for
this budget amendment.
