Dear Mr. Ready,
I am the Artistic Director of Caballeros — The Gay Men's Chorus of Palm Springs, and
we are producing a concert on October 22, 2005 at Palm Springs High School
Auditorium to raise money for hurricane relief. Our hope is to raise $20,000430,000 for
the cause(an average of$20 per seat, 1100 seats). To that end,the Palm Springs Unified
School District has waived all rental fees associated with the use of the auditorium.
In the same light, I hereby request the City Council waive the cost of having Palm
Springs Police presence at the theater the evening of the concert. Because publicity states
that we will be accepting cash donations at the door, I fear the possibility of a criminal
element taking advantage of the situation. In order to provide security for the audience
arriving and departing the concert, we would need police there from approximately 6 pm
until approximately 10 pm. The concert is scheduled for 7 pm and should last
approximately 2 hours.
I would like to state clearly here that none of the participants in the concert (Caballeros,
Derrik Lewis' Musical Chairs, Metropolitan Opera Star Janet Hopkins) are receiving any
kind of remuneration for their contribution to the success of this concert. All net
proceeds will be sent directly to Habitat for Humanity to be used in their"Operation
Home Delivery" to build homes to replace those lost by low income families along the
Gulf Coast.
If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time via my
cell phone— 760/880-1334.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Alan Scott
