HomeMy WebLinkAbout22827 RESOLUTION NO. 22827 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM BOARD OF ADMINISTRATION APPROVE AN EMPLOYMENT EXTENSION PER GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 21221(h) FOR RETIREE MARTHA EDGMON. WHEREAS, Martha Edgmon retired from the City of Palm Springs in the position of Executive Assistant Mayor/Council, effective June 26, 2010; and WHEREAS, the City of Palm Springs appointed Martha Edgmon to the position of Temporary Executive Assistant Mayor/Council, a position deemed to be of limited duration and requiring specialized skills, effective June 28, 2010; and WHEREAS, Martha Edgmon is expected to reach her maximum of 960 hours this fiscal year on or about January 15, 2011; and WHEREAS, due to a major deficit in the City's 2010-11 annual budget, and the resulting staffing reductions, Martha Edgmon agreed to temporarily step in and provide a wide variety of highly complex administrative support services to the Mayor and City Council pending a final decision on staffing; WHEREAS, Martha Edgmon has specialized administrative skills which include independently coordinating a variety of tasks from City-wide departmental sources within demanding time frames; by the high visibility of the Mayor and City Council Office, and by the need to independently analyze situations and develop responses on behalf of the Mayor and City Council. Responsibilities include regular contact with governmental officials, the City Council, representatives of business or community organizations, the public, and all levels of City personnel. This position is responsible for ongoing administrative assignments including, but not limited to, reviewing pertinent materials for the City Council, independently researching and compiling information on issues as needed for Council consideration; maintaining Council assignments and priorities; coordinating departmental staff responses; acting as primary liaison for internal and external inquiries, resolving a majority of issues; and processing highly confidential and sensitive information frequently requiring the application of discretion and tact; and THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the CalPERS Board of Administration be requested to approve an extension for the temporary employment of Martha Edgmon for 350 additional hours through June 30, 2011.
