STAFF ANALYSIS:
The City of Palm Springs Office of Sustainability's annual report is intended to provide
an overview of the progress made to accomplish the goals of the City's sustainability
plan throughout the calendar year. The City of Palm Springs "Your Sustainable City"
program has expanded and more initiatives have been introduced in the last year. The
program now boasts educational undertakings on a monthly basis. These include
activities such as local food events, Arbor Day, Water Awareness month and Bike
Month. These endeavors are supported through the work of the Palm Springs City
Council, Office of Sustainability, Sustainability Commission and Mayor's Leadership
Council. The stakeholders are crucial to implementing changes necessary to reach the
City of Palm Springs goals of becoming a zero waste community and to reduce overall
energy use. Some of the major goals achieved include completion of the City's
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory, award of an electric vehicle grant and
installation of a downtown recycling program.
