HomeMy WebLinkAbout22890 RESOLUTION NO. 22890 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF THE MAYORS AGAINST ILLEGAL GUNS' STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES. WHEREAS, thousands of Americans across the country are killed every year as a result of gun violence, destroying families and communities in big cities and small towns; and WHEREAS, local government is obligated to protect our local residents, especially our children, from harm and one of the major threats to public safety is that of illegal guns; and WHEREAS, the Palm Springs Police Department has initiated and conducted a successful "Gift for Guns" program, endorsed by the City Council, as an effective incentive to remove illegal guns from the City of Palm Springs; and WHEREAS, the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition is dedicated to making America's cities safer by cracking down on illegal guns. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, does hereby support the Mayors Against Illegal Guns' Statement of Principles. SECTION 2. Palm Springs Mayor Stephen P. Pougnet is hereby authorized and directed to execute the Mayors Against Illegal Guns' Statement of Principles. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 16T" DAY OF MARCH, 2011. DAVID H.
