Ready, City Manager BY: Fire Department SUMMARY Requesting City Council approval of Amendment #3 to the Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan approving the addition of three Fire Captain positions in the Fire Department. RECOMMENDATION: 1. Adopt Resolution No. , "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS APPROVING AMENDMENT #4 TO THE ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN, ADOPTED BY RESOLUTION 21284.11 STAFF ANALYSIS: On July 20, 2005 the City Council adopted Minute Order No. 7721 approving an amendment to Agreement No. 3436 with the County of Riverside that directed the Palm Springs Fire Department to assume fire services in Fire Protection Area #2N in the extreme northern parts of the City (North Indian Canyon Dr. and the 1-10 corridor) beginning on September 1, 2005. City Council also authorized an increased staffing level at Fire Station 443 to three persons (Captain, Engineer, and Firefighter) in the first quarter of 2006, and directed staff to prepare an amendment to the Allocated Positions Resolution. The Fire Chief was successful in implementing the response coverage changes in Fire Protection Area #2N on September 1, 2005. This amendment to the Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan will allow the Fire Department to implement 3 person staffing at Station #443 in February 2006. Item No. 2 , J . A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS APPROVING AMENDMENT #3 TO THE ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN, ADOPTED BY RESOLUTION 21284 WHEREAS, an Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan was adopted June 8, 2005, for the 2005-06 fiscal year by Resolution No. 21284; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to amend said Allocated Positions and Compensation to include the addition of three (3) Fire Captain positions. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan for positions in the City Service for fiscal year 2005-2006 is hereby amended as follows: SECTION 2. Department Classification Unit/Range Fire Fire Captain FMX/61 Total authorized positions 2005-2006 Budget 455.25 Total authorized positions 2005-2006 as amended (Amendment#3) 458.25 ADOPTED THIS 16th day of November, 2005.
