Deepwell Estates Neighborhood Organization ("DENO") is an organization of your neighbors for the purpose of improving the quality of life in our neighborhood. Enclosed is a complementary copy of our newsletter. Here are some of the things we do and why you should be a member: • Neighborhood Community: With DENO's involvement, Deepwell is becoming a community of neighbors knowing, caring and looking out for one another in the neighborhood. • Newsletters: Keep abreast of neighborhood news by reading the quarterly newsletters. • Neighborhood Watch Program: We have a team of 23 neighbors who walk the neighborhood watching out for your interests. We're not a substitute for your security system, but we're there to help. And if you're away for a short or extended period and let us know how to reach you, we'll watch out for anything unusual so that if something should go haywire, like your sprinkler's, we can help solve the problem while you're away. • Red Imported Fire Ant (RIFA) Eradication Program: A few years ago, the yards of over 100 of the 350 homes in Deepwell had fire ants. DENO worked with the Coachella Valley RIFA Eradication Program to successfully eradicate these ants from Deepwell at no charge to the homeowners. The State's RIFA Program has been eliminated due to budget cuts, but DENO continues to assist homeowners with information on how to effectively eradicate these pests from your property. • Palm Tree Trimming Program: Over the past five years, DENO has interviewed palm tree- trinuning services and negotiated reduced rates for DENO members. In 2006, we will publish a list of suggested trimmers for you to contact. In order to take advantage of the reduced rates, you will need to be a member. • Neighborhood Gatherings: Meet your neighbors at one of three DENO gatherings: Annual meeting(winter), Mardi Gras Celebration(spring), and the Block Party(fall). • Garden Walk: See some of the delightful landscaping in the neighborhood. • Deepwell By Night: Walk the neighborhood, meet your neighbors and see Deepwell lit up. • Garden Exchange: Join your neighbors to learn with about plants and landscaping. • Deepwell Garage Sale: Spring cleaning your home and garage for the annual publicized Garage Sale. • Service Recommendations: We maintain a list of service providers recommended by your neighbors. If you need a pool service, a plumber or the like, contact us and we'll let you know who's recommended. • Community Emergency Response Team ("CERT"): We are working with the fire department to train some of your neighbors to respond to the needs of the neighborhood in the event of a natural disaster. • Palm Springs Office of Neighborhood Involvement: DENO and neighborhood organizations like ours convinced the City to set up an office to listen to and pay attention to neighborhood concerns. The City is now listening to us. Deepwell Estates Neighborhood Organization P.O. That's fine for planned unit developments like those in La Quinta where properties are practically built on top of one another - but not for old revered and established neighborhoods like Deepwell. We need new building codes that will protect the integrity of Deepwell. We are forming a committee to address this situation and are requesting that the City consider a six month moratorium on tearing down and constructing new homes in Deepwell.
