HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-02-15 STAFF REPORTS 2N OF PALM S P� V n City Council Staff Report C'141 FO RN�P CITY COUNCIL FEBRUARY 15, 2006 CONSENT CALENDAR Subject: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE 2005/2006 FISCAL YEAR BY TRANSFERRING $150,000 OF UNOBLIGATED GAS TAX FUNDS TO ACCOUNT NUMBER 133-4298- 50204 FOR THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL FLOW IMPROVEMENT PROJECT PREVIOUSLY DELETED IN ORDER TO FUND THE MESQUITEAVENUE PROJECT. From: City Manager Initiated by: Director of Public Works/City Engineer SUMMARY ,Approval of this Resolution will provide for transfer of$150,000 of unallocated Gas Tax (Funds to account number 133-4298-50204 which will fund this year's Traffic Signal Flow Improvement Projects. (RECOMMENDATION: 1) Adopt Resolution No. "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA,AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE 2005/2006 FISCAL YEAR FOR THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL FLOW IMPROVEMENT PROJECT, CITY PROJECT NO. 05-07." 2) Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. STAFF ANALYSIS: On January 4, 2006 City Council awarded a construction contract to Yeager Skanska, Incorporated for the Mesquite Avenue Improvement Project. As a part of that award, Council adopted a Resolution canceling certain funded capital improvement projects in order to fund the Mesquite Avenue Improvement Project. One of the cancelled projects was the Traffic Signal Flow Improvement Projects,which was to change protected left turn :signals to protected-permissive at various locations within the city, continuing a process 7EM NO. 6 _ i I I I i I I City Council Staff Report February 15, 2006 - Page 2 Unallocated Gas Tax Funds Transfer started in 2003. Subsequent to that action, the Finance Director has reported that the City has $150,000 in unallocated Gas Tax Funds. This action will utilize these funds to reinstate the Traffic Signal Flow Improvement Project which will repair and/or modify the RamonRoad/Paseo Dorotea, Ramon/Crossley, Sunrise Way/Tachevah Drive, Sunrise Way/Amado Road, East Palm Canyon Drive/Cherokee Way and Farrell Drive/Tahquitz Canyon Way intersections. - FISCAL IMPACT: Finance Director Review: Approval of this resolution will transfer unallocated Gas Tax Funds for use in the previously Gas Tax Funded Traffic Signal Flow Improvements Project. WHEREAS Resolution 21283 approving the budget for the fiscal year 2005/2006 was adopted on June 8, 2005; and WHEREAS the City Manager has recommended, and the City Council desires to approve, certain amendments to said budget; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Director of Finance is authorized to record inter-fund cash transfers as required in accordance with this Resolution, and that Resolution 21283 adopting the budget for the 2005/2006 budget year is hereby amended as follows: SECTION 1: ADDITIONS Fund Activity Account Amount 133 4298 50204 $ 150,000 Gas Tax Fund 2106 Fund Improvements Traffic Signal Flow Improvements Purpose: To provide funds for the Traffic Signal Flow Improvement Project previously cancelled by Resolution No. 21481. SECTION 2: SOURCE - Gas Tax Unallocated Funds are available Fund Activity Account Amount 133 29301 $150,000 Gas Tax Fund Fund Balance Adopted this 15th day of February, 2006. David H.
