This item will be placed on the February 15, 2006 City Council agenda for consideration. The candidate applications are attached for your review. I` What specific attitudes, skills and expertise do you think you have to enhance the work of the commission? As Prsident/CEO of the AACCPS, I have secured educational forums presented by r.-. diverse members and businesses of the greater Coachella Valley. Such as Dana Schaffer of New York Life, Mary Bhrel of Assembly Woman Bonnie Garcia's office, Working Wonders, Southern California Edison, as wel as candidates for political office. What specific issues or problems face the board/commission? Do you have any suggestions to address those issues or problems? One of the issues facing the commission today is the perception of its non proactiveness. Such as the cry for youth entertainment during Villagefest. During recent calls for increased entertainment the presence of minors was discourged. However minors have a right to be present where ever their !'{ I presence is deemed legal. This argument should include the attention and ' ! foresight of the Human Rights Commission. Our current recognition of our Homeless is partially due to our lack of attention as a community. This is where the Human Rights Commission hasan oppotunity to exercise it' s ission toward community awareness about our surrounding diversity and to applicable human needs. Additional qualifications for the Rent Control Commission are: a) applicant may not be a landolord or tenant subject to the rent control ordinance; b) must submit a verified statement as to present holdings and interests in real property in the City. They would be notified after the City Council meeting.
