Library Lovers Month
Celebrating One Book, One Community
Presented this 15s'day of February 2006
On behalf of the
Palm Springs Public Library.
And the
City of Palm Springs, California
WHEREAS, in a world undergoing constant change, libraries provide structure and
services helping us all stay connected with our communities, nations and civilizations;
and
WHEREAS, such library services include pre-school story-hours, year-round teen and
children's after-school activities and summer reading programs to encourage a habit of
reading that will serve to benefit children's personal and future professional lives; and
WHEREAS, all of the public and secondary school libraries in the Coachella Valley
are celebrating this month by encouraging the reading of Touching Spirit Bear, by Ben
Mikaelsen; and
WHEREAS, students in Pahn Springs are engaging in activities and creative projects
about the themes in the book at school and at the Palm Springs Public Library; and
WHEREAS, author Ben Mikaelsen will visit Palm Springs and the Palm Springs
Public Library to hold programs and writing workshops with young people who have
read and loved his work;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, MAYOR RON
ODEN, proclaim February 2006 as Library Lovers Month in Pahn Springs, California by
joining in the celebration of One Book, One Community in the Coachella Valley and urge
everyone to visit the Palm Springs Public Library to join in reading Touching Spirit Bear,
by Ben Mikaelsen.
