Foat, seconded by Councilmember Mills and unanimously carried noting
the absence of Mayor Oden.
In late 2005 the City Council adopted Ordinance 1674 modifying the requirements for
appointment to the Board. Staff has prepared an ordinance to facilitate increasing the
Board from 5 members to 7.
At its meeting on January 24, 2006, the VillageFest Board voted 3 to 2 to recommend to
the City Council to increase the number of members on the Board from 5 to 7.
AYES: Chair Danielson, Member Rosenberg, Member Romeo (first meeting).
NOES: Vice-Chair Meredith, Member Karlstrom.
While the Board was relatively split in their decision, those in favor generally felt that by
increasing the number of members on the Board would enable the Board to be more
productive, provide greater accomplishments, create more committees, and the ability
for additional diversity/expertise on the Board.
Those in opposition felt that the current members have never lacked for ideas, but not
enough time to develop them with current staff, concerns about having a quorum,
increasing the number of members has been tried before and complicated matters, and
"red" tape by increasing the number of committees.
FISCAL IMPACT: IFinance Director Review:
Minor cost impacts such as printing, postage, recruitment, coordinating and
communicating with additional members.
